Outreach Programs-Thomas Hunter Middle School Special Education December 07 2015, 0 Comments

The Bay School not only provides a place for art enthusiasts to learn new techniques, but it also goes out into the Mathews/Gloucester communities to teach art enrichment programs to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to explore the arts. The second week each month, we’ll give you a peek into the many educational programs that are powered by grants and other generous donors.

Every Monday morning our Outreach Program Coordinator, Saraya Cheney, has the honor of spending an hour with students in Thomas Hunter Middle School's Special Education Program. The learning styles and grade levels within the classroom may vary, but the enthusiasm the students show for expressing themselves creatively is collectively shared.

Their adventures into the arts have included the study of line, shape, color and color mixing. In November, when tragedy struck the THMS Community, the Special Education classroom family took part in an art therapy session where, together, they waded through the different emotions that play a part in grief.
Upcoming projects will continue to delve into the elements of art and design as well as the creation of pieces to be submitted to the Art Through Special Eyes show in 2016, here at the Bay School.
