EVENTS & EXHIBITS

You'll never believe that such a small organization could offer this much!  Take a look at our calendar below for the events and exhibitions.  We are proud partners with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and are able to bring their traveling exhibitions to you.  We also showcase local and regional artists, have judged contests and feature one-person shows.

Artist Spotlight

Nina Eastman Buzby lives in Mathews, VA on the banks of Buzzberry Cove. She is the daughter of an art professor dad and musical mom. Nina retired after 33 years as an Elementary School teacher and administrator. She was introduced to pine needle basketry at the Bay School Community Arts Center where she took a class taught by Judy Mallow. Judy is a fifth generation pine needle basket maker from Carthage NC whose grandmother is also named Nina (pronounced the same way with the long “i”). Nina has been making and designing pine needle baskets in her spare time ever since taking the class in March of 2003. In 2009 she began teaching classes at The Bay School on “Beginning Pine Needle Basketry” and is happy to encourage others to enjoy the craft as much as she does.
