A few questions to Missi

What made you start teaching?

I started teaching because Wendy Wells asked me if I could teach a class at Captain Morgan's Herb Farm on basket weaving. I did because I didn't want to say, "I've never done that before." Then she asked me to teach a class for a school she was starting, so I did because I enjoyed the first one. I have been teaching every since.

What do you get out of teaching?

I teach because I like people. It is fun to meet them, learn about their lives, and to teach them something new and different. It is great to see the smile on someone's face when they look at the finished basket and know they made something beautiful. Who knows, maybe one of my students will become a famous basket weaver!

Tell me something people would be surprised to find out about you.

When I was in high school I took a handwriting test to be able to address Christmas cards for Jimmy Carter, who was president at the time.  I passed the test, went to the White House and spent one Saturday addressing Christmas cards for the president and his wife.  For several years after that, I received my own  Christmas cards from the president.  It was a great time!
