February/March Artist of the Month: Lindsay Phaup

The Art Speaks Gallery Artist of the Month for February/March 2025 is Lindsay Phaup. Lindsay recycles old and often broken objects into jewelry and wearables that delight the imagination.

Lindsay's work will be on display thru the end of March and also can be viewed and shopped online.

The backstory of her business and creations is as inspiring as the work itself:

Artist's Statement

"In September of 2003, Hurricane Isabelle hit my home in Gloucester harder than any storm I can recall. Along with widespread damage, the storm brought me a squishy-faced, three-month-old bulldog I named Bella. Bella consumed my entire heart and was my loyal sidekick for nearly nine years. At the age of seven, Bella was diagnosed with glaucoma that took both of her eyes.

When I decided to offer my creations to the world I didn’t hesitate on what to call it. The name Blind Bella not only serves as a reminder that beauty is blind, but also keeps a little squishy-faced girl’s memory alive.

Blind Bella's wearable art pieces are a testament to the enduring beauty found in the discarded and forgotten. In a world of mass production and disposable goods, I find inspiration in the enduring beauty of the imperfect. I seek to celebrate the beauty of the past and the stories embedded within the forgotten. My wearable art repurposes discarded and often broken objects, giving them new life and purpose. I believe that wearable art can be a form of personal storytelling. When someone dons one of my pieces, they not only connect with its history but also interpret and redefine its purpose."
