Although Chicago born and raised, Phil Dunn considers himself a southern artist. After completing a three-decade career as chair and Scudder professor of art at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, Phil and his wife Joan, relocated to coastal Virginia where he resumed creating fine art and commercial photographic images.

His landscapes and digital photomontages have been exhibited in numerous group and one-person shows including: Art Speaks, Chasing the Light, Kaleidoscope, Images from the Digital Domain, A Fool for Art, Montage, Six Decades of Leadership, and Mirror Image. He has also completed major commissions for the University of South Carolina, the Palmetto Health/Richland Memorial Hospital Brain Imaging Center, the USC Technology Incubator, SCANA, Holiday Inn Express, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Wingate Inns, and the Sandy Beach Resort.

Primarily a landscape photographer, much of Dunn’s fine art photography involves using the landscape as a motif (a repeated element) in constructing photomontages that challenge the viewer to deconstruct the image to find the “nugget of reality” that forms the basis for the artwork. Phil also continues to create traditional landscapes and is frequently commissioned to create images for corporate collections, hotels, and resorts.

Commercially, Dunn spends time photographing dogs. In this pursuit he has created two photographic enterprises: Phil’s Pooch Pix focuses on creating formal and informal portraits of our K9 companions, while Fast Cat Photo captures the fierce grace of dogs in action. Examples of Dunn’s work can be seen at www.fastcatphil.com; and on Facebook at Phil Dunn Photo and Phil’s Pooch Pix.

Phil Dunn's Artist of the Month exhibit will be up through February 26th. In addition to his work in the Artist of the Month exhibit he also has several pieces on both the "Best in Show" and All Creatures exhibits. In fact one of his pieces "Bring it" won the Judge's Award of Merit at the "Best in Show" reception. "Bring it", Phil Dunn and the award are pictured below.
