Empty Bowls Charity Fundraiser

Thank you, Mathews, for making this year's Empty Bowls Fundraiser such a huge success - we raised more than $7,000 together! It takes a village and we are proud to be part of this one!

There are a few bowls remaining for sale in the gallery. Stop by and pick one up for your collection or a gift!

Empty Bowls is back in 2022

On Sunday, December 11, 11:00-1:30, the event will be LIVE throughout the building with handmade bowls and soup-to-go.

Please enter through the gallery.

Eat here or take your soup to go!

To simplify things this year, we will NOT be pre-selling tickets. Bring cash, credit card, or check made to Hands Across Mathews.  Each bowl is $15. Exact change is a huge help if you are paying cash!!!

We will have two "shifts" of soup and bowls, with all the favorites spread across both sets. So you don't all need to arrive right at the start. New bowls will be set out around noon.

You can make a donation at any time, on this website, or send a check! Please make checks out to Hands Across Mathews.

Thank you for supporting Hands Across Mathews!!!

The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our ninth annual Empty Bowls event.  The hand-made bowls are stacked on the shelves at the Bay School.

An incredible assortment of hand-made soups, breads, and cookies will be served during the event.  Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands, both novice and expert.

All proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews. Your $15 gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch-to-go of soup and bread, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews.  Extra soup may be purchased for $5 a serving, and additional donations are of course welcome and appreciated.

We hope you join us!

The Bay School is a non-profit arts organization partially funded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, The Dominion Foundation, and local community foundations. More than 100 studio classes are offered each year and twelve outreach programs bring art into the community to those who cannot attend a traditional art class. The Mission of Hand Across Mathews is to help local families who have suffered some crisis that puts them in need of the basic amenities of food, clothing, shelter, prescription medications or fuel. When all other avenues of support have been exhausted, they help them get back on their feet. They have combined the efforts of 35 churches to provide non-denominational charitable aid to families, which have been evaluated and approved by the Mathews County Social Services Department. More than 100 families are currently being served each week. For more information about Hands Across Mathews, please visit their website at http://handsacrossmathews.org/.
