September Artist of the Month: Jack Banks

Art Speaks Gallery's September Artist of the Month is Jack Banks, whose painterly style will be on display thru the end of the month.

Jack, originally from Richmond, Virginia, studied art at VCU in the early 70s. He then moved to Middlesex County and worked for several boat builders and started his own sign company. His son is an artist and teacher, and his wife also is a teacher and becoming adept at printmaking.

In describing his work, Jack says, "I paint and draw from subjects that can fully engage me, if only for a brief time. Working quickly, without reflection, I find more satisfying results and more gestural expression this way. It doesn't always happen, and when the results are less than I expected, I can usually remember when I lost my focus. When the image does work, I feel I had a total connection."
