June Artist of the Month: Christine Dunkle

Christy Dunkle moved to Clarke County, Virginia from Colorado in 2001. She began making mosaics in 2021. She has studied under Scottish mosaicist Rachel Davies and Seattle-based artist Kelley Knickerbocker. She currently sells jewelry and mosaics in local and regional venues and shows throughout the US.

The materials she uses to create her pieces include slate and shale from Arkansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Scotland, 24-karat gold leaf imbedded between pieces of glass, recycled roof tiles cut into rods and split, Youghiogheny River shale that features a deep black color that contrasts well with the other materials, Mexican smalti, and Marcellus shale needles.

You can view and shop her collection in the Art Speaks Gallery through June or shop it online at Christy Dunkle – Bay School Community Arts Center.
